Week 3 Storify Article

Storify is a social media platform that allows its users to collate several mediums of social media and make their own stories based around those posts on other platforms.

Personally, I feel that Storify is a confusing platform. Whilst it provides an easy to use service to perform the tasks that a user may wish to perform, my issue with Storify is its existence. Why do we need yet another social media platform for random people and citizen journalists to essentially re-post other peoples hard work and to take credit for potentially hours or days of someone else's work for their own personal gain.

However, my own feelings aside, Storify does open up a whole new platform of information delivery, and whilst looking at the trending stories, it appears that the most common type of story that makes the featured list is sporting events or other public events that are extremely popular such as music festivals or appearances of particular people of interest such as celebrities or politicians.

Whilst Storify is a convenient place to collate a huge number of sources for virtually any story that a user may wish to produce. I just don't feel that it is going to be used in any form of serious media as it only seems to operate in soft news stories that really do not have much of a place in any form of serious media.

  1. Andrew, I enjoyed reading your post and I find myself agreeing with you about storify. The points you make about it aren't mere petty gripes, but in fact raise serious questions about perhaps an over-saturation of soft news and social media platforms. Personally I found it's layout and manner of content delivery confusing, and would much prefer to use traditional blogging/news sites. Overall a very well constructed post and it is very interesting to hear other opinions on these matters.

  2. Hello Andrew,
This is a fairly well written personal reflection on Storify itself. You have answered all of the questions that were asked in this exercise. However, I feel that some of this reflection is presumptuous. In talking about people using Storify for plagiarism you have made an assumption based on an opinion that does not seem to have any merit. Other than that though, this is a fair review that raises some interesting points.
